Queensland government worker on $170K Fraud Charge

(Brisbane Times, 1 February 2017)

A public servant has appeared in court over accusations she used a credit card to try to defraud almost $170,000 from the Queensland government.

Anjana Devi Mukul Chandra is facing four counts, including fraud and attempted fraud charges totalling $167,000, making false declarations, and making a false entry on a record.

The offences are alleged to have occurred between April 2016 and January of this year when Ms Chandra was employed by the government’s Public Safety Business Agency.

It’s alleged the 36-year-old woman used a corporate credit card belonging to the PSBA to try to misappropriate the money, and then tried to cover it up by making a false entry in an account reconciliation ledger.

Ms Chandra, from Albany Creek, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday where the matter was adjourned until February 27.
